I have been a member of Mensa since 1991 having taken the A test in 1977 got busy and came back for the
supervised test in 91. I got involved as the editor of Empress, the East Midlands newsletter, in
1992 and since then in 2001 along with Jenny Gill helped create and then edit Spotlight Nor'east
newsletter of the North East Region. About the same time I was appointed as Regional Publications
Officer and still hold that position. I have also edited Semantics and Scrumpy.
On a personal note I am 66 years old and have been happily married for 31 years. I trained as a Naval Artificer,
ordnance, and later after leaving the Royal Navy became a Police Officer serving in Doncaster Borough,
West Yorkshire and Lincolnshire forces. I spent most of my service as a detective having spells
attached to the Regional Crime Squad in the North and East of England. After becoming disabled in 1989
and having to retire from the police I went back to college and obtained an HND
in computer studies and became a programmer.
I am now retired and luckily in these times of "Credit Crunching" I own my own home with no
usurers wanting pounds of my flesh. Whether my police pension will continue to keep my wife and I is certainly
in the lap of the Gods, well currently the lap of the government. Hopefully I will be able to devote
some time to being the South East's Regional Officer and continue being the Regional Publications Officer.
